Navarre is a small unincorporated community located in Santa Rosa County. Navarre, FL is situated inside the Florida Panhandle near the Gulf of Mexico, and is home to many U.S. Military personnel. According to the 2014 U.S. Census, Navarre, FL has a population of approximately 42,200.
The area that is present-day Navarre, FL was discovered when Spanish explorers came across the East Bay River in 1693. Navarre, FL was founded by Guy Wyman, who was a colonel in the U.S. Army. Wyman fell in love with a French nurse named Noelle during World War I. Laws at the time prohibited Noelle from coming to the United States with Wyman unless she was his child. For this reason, Guy Wyman adopted Noelle and brought to her to Florida. Noelle named the area Wyman purchased for them "Navarre," after a province in Spain.
